Wireless N Router

The wireless N routher series can typically handle up to 300 megabits per second compared with the 54 mbps of the older 802.11g generation. This makes the wireless N router one of the quickest, cheapest and easiest ways to improve the speed of your network. However, the price and the performance of the wireless N router series varies a lot. See the rest of this article below for more details about the wireless N router.

Wireless N Router

802.11n is the third generation for home computer wireless transmissions. It is backwardly compatible with the previous versions 802.11b and 802.11g. 802.11n is both faster and able to send and receive over longer distances. It is not guaranteed that these early wireless n routers will be compatible with future wireless n router units as these are called 'draft' wireless n routers'.wireless n router

The majority of wireless n routers have at least three MIMO radios and antennas and three or four 10/100 Ethernet switches in order to plug in computers that do not have wireless capabilities.

In fact, these draft n wireless routers are a big improvement on earlier n routers. In the early days, a few years ago, the wireless n router was often not as good as the best wireless g routers on the market. In many cases, 802.11n technology was not as good as 802.11g. Compatibility of equipment between vendors was particularly ropey.

These problems have largely been cleared up with modern units sporting wireless n router technology. This 802.11n router technology is the first one that can compete for speed with ordinary wired Ethernet connections (100 mbps) because they promise to run at 300 mbps over 1,400 feet compared to the 54 mbps and 300 feet of the 802.11g series.

Therefore, if you are looking for ways to speed up your home or small office wireless network, buying a wireless n router is the single best option. However, the easy bit ends there. There are several dozen different types of wireless n router. This is reflected in the range or prices which vary from $50 to $250 and even more.

There are three broad bands of wireless n router. First, there are those that are faster and have greater range, but which will not achieve the maximum specifications of 802.11n. Then there are 802.11n enabled routers that have the full power and full range, but do not sport all the features and lastly there are the routers that are full-specification 802.11n.

That is, they work at full speed, over the full distance and can switch automatically between b, g and n technologies to take advantage of whichever one is working best in that area. This is because 802.11 B and G work at 2.4 GHz, but a wireless N router will also work at 5 GHz

Because it is quite difficult to choose the correct wireless router for your needs, it is worth going to a reputable shop. It is also worth buying a higher spec model than you really need. Therefore, getting a wireless n router is a necessity, but whether you get the mid-range or top of the range wireless n router depends on finances and what you want to use it for.
